Ginseng
Ginseng is a very popular Chinese herb which is known for fighting disease and boosting the immune system. It slows down the absorption of carbohydrates, let the cells use glucose to the max, and increase insulin production in the pancreas. Typical dosage is three to five ml of tincture thrice a day or one to three grams in tablet or capsule form daily.

Prickly Pear Cactus

Some studies showed that the ripe fruit of prickly pear cactus lowers blood glucose since it contains some components that are similar to insulin. This fruit is also high in fiber. If not found in grocery stores, prickly pear cactus are sometimes sold in powder or juice at health food stores as one of the diabetic supplements.
Typical dosage is half of a cup a day.

Fenugreek

Fenugreek seeds are known to aid diabetes too. They are used in Indian cooking are found to increase insulin sensitivity and reduce cholesterol. It might be made possible because it contains high fiber and an amino acid. In a large study of fenugreek, the 60 people who took 25 grams of fenugreek everyday showed good improvements in after-meal spikes and control of blood sugar. Typical dosage is 5 to 30 grams per meal or 15 to 90 grams per day.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon has methylhydroxy chalcone polymer (MHCP) which increases insulin sensitivity and helps in the glucose formation to energy. It is claimed that cinnamon, an effective diabetic supplement, either natural form or injected form, aid diabetes by tripling the efficiency of insulin. It has antioxidants that aid in reducing diabetes damaging effects.

Alpha-lipoic acid

Alpha-lipoic acid or ALA is a vitamin-like substance that helps neutralize free radicals. Free radicals are caused by blood sugar which can result to nerve damage and other health disorders. In diabetics, it is to prevent kidney disease and neuropathy. Typical dosage is 30 to 50 mg twice or thrice weekly.

Whey protein
Type 2 diabetics must add whey protein to their meals which are high in carbohydrates. It helps stimulate the release of insulin and lower after-meal spikes.
