Face Diabetes – Instead of Running Away from it!

For people with diabetes, life can be long and quite difficult. However, it should not be an excuse of running away from the disease. Diabetes, if confronted and managed well, is not a disease that takes someone’s life immediately. Diabetes can be a part of life, or a way of life for those who accept it or have taken the challenge of living with it.

Some people with diabetes hate the fact of living with it for the rest of their lives. They tend to think of running away instead of facing it. Yet, as part of their lives, diabetes is not the easy to run away from. It goes with you all the time.

This unexplainable, personality-changing and life-altering disease may have the force to make people who have it act or appear weird. Diabetes even at times prevents the person from becoming what he would like to be. For example, patients with diabetes cannot become pilots, or firemen or drivers of public vehicles.

Develop self-love and self-confidence

While diabetics can feel pity over themselves for having the disease, it is a fact that
they are not alone and they cannot do anything when other people, who are not well-educated about diabetes, tend to misunderstand them. Running away from diabetes just because of other people’s misunderstanding does not make sense.

Diabetes is a manageable disease. All there is needed is for the diabetic patient to love himself enough in order to survive. Self-confidence is as important too as it will make you strong to face the challenges brought about by the disease.

As a diabetic, bear in mind that you cannot make everyone sympathize with you. You have to do it alone strongly enough in order to withstand it. You cannot do something for other people but you definitely can do something for yourself.

First with diabetes, learn to keep safe your blood sugar levels. Do not go running away from that self-responsibility. Then find out why your hypo’s and hyper’s happen and study hard what you can do to prevent it from happening again. Sometimes, all it takes is some injections and you will be fine again.

Positive attitude

For diabetics, what makes a big difference is a positive attitude, that helps you get in control and not the illness.

Be humble enough to accept that you have diabetes. Be coachable enough to your doctor, dietician or health care providers by following their medical advice. Doing the opposite may make you pay the price. Most of all, be on top of diabetes.

Take note that many people with diabetes have made their mark to success either in the fields of entertainment, sports and many others. They never thought of running away from the challenges. Many diabetics get involved with travel and a lot of field work. Yet, they are just fine in proving other people wrong that diabetics cannot succeed, by overcoming the obstacles that come their way.
