Your Body Weight and Your Risk

What is the relation of body weight to having risk of getting into some diseases? Body weight is a good indication if you are healthy or not. It is but worthy to watch over weight and keep it at a healthy range.

Becoming overweight can be a result of indulgence and lack of discipline. However, it has its rewards too. Overweight increases the risk for type 2 diabetes, stroke and heart disease. Likewise, it can cause problems like high blood glucose, high blood pressure and unhealthy cholesterol.

Overweight and diabetes have been called by Healthful Life as the twin American health epidemics. The number of people becoming overweight or obese increases every year in children, young adults and especially adults.

Obesity, overweight and diabetes become more common since 1990. Figures from surveys are doubted as just underestimates. Some studies suggest that already 30 percent of adults are overweight.

Overweight means that your BMI (body mass index equals to weight in kilograms divided by the height in meters squared) is more than 25. So body weight, which has a relation to health and risk of getting sick, is one of the major components of BMI. Normal BMI is 25 or below., mild obesity is 34.9, obesity that is moderately severe is 35-39.99 and extreme obesity is above 40.

Being overweight gives you 60 percent risk for getting diabetes. Not only that. Being overweight also exposes you to hypertension at 80 percent and 50 percent for high cholesterol levels. Moderate obesity increases the risk of hypertension and diabetes three times and twice for arthritis and high cholesterol level. Severe obesity is worse. It gives six to seven times risk for hypertension and diabetes and four times of arthritis.

Over body weight and obesity result to higher risk for diabetes. They are one of the major culprits of diabetes and every year, the world produces more and more overweight and obese people. Before, doctors used to see diabetes becoming more prevalent in children and young adult, while type 2 diabetes is more common on older people and when gain is achieved. However, getting overweight has become easy these days. More fats grow around the hips and waist before we even notice them.

The prevalence of overweight and obesity has increase, even in not-so-rich countries, that sometimes we do not know we will be one of them, and exposing ourselves to diabetes, high blood pressure, heart problems and high cholesterol levels. Knowing about the results of statistics on over body weight and the risk that goes with it can give us enough fear that we shall wish not to eat anymore.

In 2005, there shall be two billion people who are overweight and 700 million obese, as WHO or the World Health Organization believes. Just make sure we shall not be one of them.
